More broadly, RANSW works to strengthen community connections which sustain positive relationships. Our endeavours are supported by strong collaboration within the national Relationships Australia network and with other partners.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking suitably qualified and experienced Family Advisors to join the busy Western Sydney Family Referral Service based at Mt Druitt and Rouse Hill, providing services to 8 LGAs from Auburn to Katoomba. Family Advisors may also be required to work independently from schools or other community centres in the region.”
The role of the Family Advisor (at the Western Sydney Family Referral Service) is to engage with parents/carers who need additional support for their children and families and provide intake, assessment, co-ordination and short term ‘holding’ of cases while referrals are made to the best relevant Services. Family Advisors provide information about the Family Referral Service and assist the client and their families to identify their support needs and then to connect to the most appropriate Service. Referrals to the Western Sydney Family Referral Service include parent/carer self-referrals as well as referrals from FaCS, Police, NGOs and Allied Health professionals.
Family Advisor work is a challenging role and involves a flexible approach to case co-ordination including: intake, assessment, home visiting, case conferencing and community engagement.
The Western Sydney Family Referral Service (WSFRS) is unique among the RANSW programs. Funded by the NSW Department of Health, the WSFRS is part of the Keep Them Safe initiative designed to support children, young people and their families linking them to support services across 8 LGAs in the Greater Metropolitan area.

- conducting home visits to families and gaining skills in motivational interviewing techniques
- gaining knowledge of service providers across every sector in the eight LGAs.
- participating in community events and inter-agency meetings.
We have two position available. This is a fixed term, full time contract until 30 June 2018 with a possibility of extension. The successful candidate will need to be available to work 7.5 hours a day, Monday to Friday between 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. The annual base salary for this position is between $55,458 - $66,986 (for 5 days per week), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading. This will be negotiated with the successful candidate being dependent on their level of experience, training and qualifications.

Where is the position located?

Staff may also be required to provide outreach service in schools and community centres in the region.

Your written application must demonstrate competence in the following areas:
- A degree or diploma in social work, counselling, psychology, welfare or health related services;
- Experience in the human services environment in working directly with clients, (families and children) who may be experiencing significant crises, domestic violence or family transitions;
- Demonstrable skills in client assessment, engagement and awareness of issues relating to client safety, confidentiality and the requirements of relevant legislation (including Child Protection and Family Law);
- Proficiency in the use of IT for data entry and record keeping and communication;
- Excellent written / verbal skills – a basic level of counselling skills will be well regarded;
- Current Driver's Licence;
- Understanding of Domestic Violence, Child Protection and Family Law;
- Group work training and experience (FRC);
- Previous work experience or knowledge of working in a community based or not-for-profit organisation.
